Description:
Advanced Energy is currently seeking Firmware/Software Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities across our North American design sites. Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy’s sites in Colorado, Minnesota, New York, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered for summer and school-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, or San Jose State University.
Responsibilities:
Candidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:
- Development of embedded firmware for use in products
- Development and implementation of control algorithms
- Development of software for product interface in test and/or user environments
- Active participation in a core team to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goals
- Assist in development, testing, and de-bugging of prototype power supply units
- Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications
- Interface with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
Qualifications:
Required:
- Programming ability in high level languages such as Python, HDL, C, C++, and/or assembly languages in embedded environment
- Working knowledge of microcontrollers, field-programmable gate arrays, hardware circuit theory, and/or software development tools
- Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Ability to work in a lab environment debugging firmware, software, or embedded systems, and evaluating product spec compliance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision
Preferred:
- Ability to work with embedded systems, hardware, and read schematics
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as Ethercat, Fieldbus, SPI, and I2C
Education:
- Candidates working towards a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 40 credits towards an Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering (BSCE), Computer Science (BSCS) degree or equivalent
- Candidates working towards MS or PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Preference will be given to those with Embedded Systems and/or Controls focus. Other fields will be considered based on applicability
- GPA > 3.25
